Motoblocks Mole - from a milling cultivator to a full-fledged walk-behind tractor

Description

In 1983, Krot cultivators appeared in mass production in the countries of the former USSR. At first, these were highly specialized low-power machines designed purely for cultivating the soil, which is why they were called milling type cultivators.

With the advent of additional attachments, the capabilities of the unit have expanded significantly, and it has confidently moved into the group of multifunctional walk-behind tractors. Currently, Krot walk-behind tractors are manufactured by Moscow Machine-Building Enterprise JSC. V.V. Chernyshev, whose main profile is the production of products for the military-industrial complex, and the Omsk Vzlet plant under the Krot-Om trademark.

Model range of motoblocks

Mole MK-1

There were no similar analogues of cultivators in the eighties. Therefore, the first Mole MK-1 walk-behind tractor, even with a low power of 2,6 hp, an archaic non-removable rope starter, a gearbox and an engine that were fastened with ordinary bolts just on the frame, seemed to be the height of perfection. The machine has the simplest device: engine, gearbox, frame, handle, bracket.

The MK-1 was a highly specialized cultivator. Users were extremely pleased with the technique, so the logical continuation was the constant improvement of the design, increase in power, and expansion of functionality.

Imperfect engines caused many complaints, however, with the advent of modern engines, Mole walk-behind tractors became much more functional. The simple and reasonable design of the cultivator inspired the owners to create unique models with electric motors, using various models of gearboxes. Since the beginning of the 2000s, a copied Mole walk-behind tractor has been produced at the factories of the PRC.

Moles

Under the trademark Krotof, domestic enterprises have launched the production of sufficiently powerful machines, which, in addition to the traditional agricultural hitch, are perfectly aggregated with a wide range of attachments: snow blowers, sweepers, rotary mowers. With a mini-trailer, the units can carry up to 300 kg. cargo. Motoblocks work with 4 pairs of cutters.

Powerful motoblock Krotov 7 hp, has a weight of 98 kg. Thanks to the four-stroke engine, the G170F is able to perform heavy work on plowing virgin soil with a depth of 30 cm, large wheels provide excellent cross-country ability. The modification has 2 forward speeds and 1 reverse.

Diesel motoblocks Krotov

Motoblocks of this subgroup are represented by three models WG351, WG352 and WG353. The machines are equipped with 4-stroke diesel engines, have 3 gears 2 forward and 1 reverse. The unit provides a solid tillage width of 110 cm at a depth of 30 cm.

The WG352 version has an electric start, the power of 351 and 352 models is 6 hp. The WG353 motoblock has a large fuel tank of 5,5 liters. and power 9 hp, respectively. The price of the car is much higher - 50-52 thousand rubles.

Attachment overview

Due to the low power, design features, Mole walk-behind tractors are aggregated with additional tools of a rather limited list.

Scheme for installing attachments on a Mole walk-behind tractor:

Cutters

The Krot motoblock can work with 2 or 3 pairs of soil cutters, while the transport wheels are raised, providing sufficient plowing depth for simple and heavy soils. When cultivating fallow and virgin lands, they work only on internal cutters.

Trolley

The TM-200 minicart, equipped with a swivel hitch, in aggregation with a Mole walk-behind tractor, can carry loads weighing up to 200 kg.

Mower segment

The mower is connected to the engine using a V-belt transmission, wheels are installed.

Plow

For plowing with a plow, wheels with lugs are put on the Mole walk-behind tractor, and the plow is installed in place of the coulter.

Coulter

The coulter, complete with wheels, successfully weeds the beds, or for this purpose it is possible to use special L-shaped weeders, they are installed on internal cutters. When working with cutters, the coulter plays the role of a brake and regulates the plowing depth.

Wheels, lugs

There is no single model of wheels for walk-behind tractors, it can be various transport versions, other options. When working with a plow, hiller, potato digger, metal wheels with lugs are installed on the gearbox shafts.

Pump installation

For irrigation of agricultural crops, pumping equipment MNU-2 is mounted in front of the walk-behind tractor by means of a V-belt drive, having previously disconnected it from the gearbox.

Okuchnik, potato digger, potato planter

Instead of milling cutters, wheels are installed on the walk-behind tractor, the coulter is replaced with an appropriate hitch for planting, hilling or digging potatoes.

Features of operation

When working with a Mole walk-behind tractor, the operator must independently control the degree of immersion of the machine into the ground, maneuvering with the handles, lift or press the unit into the ground. Modest dimensions and light weight allow you to transport a walk-behind tractor in the trunk of a car, there is enough space for storage.

Service

The fuel for the walk-behind tractor is a mixture in a ratio of 20: 1 of AI-80 or AI-76 gasoline and M-12TP or M-8V1 (avtol) oil. The fuel mixture should be prepared in a separate container. It is strongly not recommended to use pure gasoline as a fuel.

The unit is not picky about the quality of gasoline, but this does not apply to engine oil. For a single-stage gearbox (in a block with a motor), MG-8A hydraulic oil is used, autol is used as a lubricant. For the main (output) gearbox, consisting of a chain and gears, transmission oil TAD-17 or SAE 85W90 is used.

First run, run-in

Despite the fact that the assembly of Mole walk-behind tractors is of high quality, the units require competent running-in to run in moving parts and mechanisms. The break-in period of the walk-behind tractor is 15 hours, during this period the equipment must not be overloaded, the load should be gradually increased.

Major malfunctions, repair

The design of walk-behind tractors was subjected to repeated improvements, as a result, a completely reliable machine was obtained. To prevent malfunctions, owners need to carefully study the operating instructions, familiarize themselves with the features of some adjustments.

Mole motoblocks practically do not contain plastic parts, they are easy to operate and repair. It is not particularly difficult for an owner who is versed in technology to somehow improve the design of the Mole walk-behind tractor. Problems with spare parts and consumables, of course, do not happen.

The owners note the weaknesses of Mole walk-behind tractors: a piston group, a rope starter, the frame structure and handles require reinforcement. During cultivation, the space between the gearbox housing and the knives can be clogged with foreign objects, earth, in this case it is necessary to urgently stop work and eliminate the blockage.

It should also be remembered that with prolonged downtime of the Mole walk-behind tractor - more than a season, the destruction of the magnetos that make up the cylinder-piston group and other elements occurs.

Technical features of the Mole motoblock:

How to set the ignition

Using a special probe, set the gap between the electrodes - a maximum of 0,6 mm, check the formation of a spark of the non-contact magneto MB-1. Spark plugs use A-17B or A-11.

Why the Mole walk-behind tractor does not start

You can watch the video about the various causes of this unpleasant phenomenon:

How to set up a carburetor

  • When setting at idle, first set the gap between the carburetor lever and the gearbox cover within 0,2-0,5 mm.
  • There are two adjusting screws on the carburetor that adjust: the 1st is the amount of fuel, the 2nd is the quality of the fuel.
  • Turn adjusting screw 1 to reduce the number of revolutions.
  • Next, screw 2 is rotated, achieving, on the contrary, an increase in the number of revolutions.
  • When the maximum number of revolutions is reached, they decrease.
  • The procedure is repeated at least 4-5 times.

Belt

Mole motoblocks usually use a standard A750 brand belt; it transmits torque from the engine to working units. In some models, the belt may have a different size, this is determined based on the marking.

It is important to maintain the temperature regime for the belt (-30 ... + 60 ° С), systematically monitor its condition - the slightest cracks, deformations or visible changes can lead to incorrect operation of the walk-behind tractor. Replacing the belt is not difficult.

Oil seals

It is structurally provided for the installation of 5 glands, which should provide the necessary sealing. With destroyed oil seals, the engine does not start well, at idle, the speed will be inconsistent. Oil seals are not subject to repair, they are replaced with new ones.

Pulley

Depending on the modification of the walk-behind tractor, pulleys can be made of steel, aluminum, cast iron. In the case of installing a new motor on a Mole walk-behind tractor, owners often face the problem of a pulley size mismatch with the motor shaft. It is necessary to bore the pulley hole or replace it with a new one. In our time, light-alloy materials have been developed, from which modern pulleys with a diameter of 18 / 19,05 / 20 mm are made.

Owner feedback

Sergey S .:

“Mole 2 has been on my farm for 15 years. Enough for my 25 acres. The device of the machine is the simplest, I repair everything myself, I have already learned over the years of operation. I work with cutters, I don’t need a plow.”

Valentin, Novosibirsk:

“With the Mole cultivator, or as it is now called a walk-behind tractor, I have the most pleasant impressions of working in the country. Inherited from his father, who plowed the entire plot with the car (12 acres). Our land is light now.”

Vladimir Ivanovich:

“I won’t exchange my old Mole for modern technology. Of course, everything is improved and thought out in the new machines, but this unit is simple and reliable. Everything in it is predictable, without tricks and unpleasant surprises. The price at which I bought it 17 years ago seemed quite high then, but it has already paid off long ago. I do everything on the site with a walk-behind tractor - plowing, beds, hilling, weeding, planting and digging potatoes without problems.
