Tractor T-16 (Vladimirets)
This is a legendary model that has a special design. She has a motor located behind, under the cab, thanks to this, the grip of the driving wheels with the surface is significantly improved. A small "trunk" is installed in front. Because of its unusual appearance, the people dubbed the T-16 tractor "beggar", because when viewed from the front, its body resembles an outstretched palm.
The T-16 tractor Vladimir is an upgrade of its predecessor, the T-14. It was equipped with a more powerful engine, wider wheels and a versatile hydraulic system. Its production began in 1961 and ended in 1968. During this short period, more than 600 copies of this technique were temporarily produced.
Most attachments are front-mountable for easy control and operation.
The demand for the T-16 is explained by the simplicity of their design, efficiency and wide operational capabilities. Basically, this tractor was purchased for the needs of agriculture.
Model range overview
Soon, instead of the T-16 tractor, the development of a more powerful T-16M model began. It was equipped with a 25 horsepower motor, which allowed the top speed to be increased to 23,2 km / h. Thanks to the creeper, the minimum operating speed is now 1,6 km / h. Thanks to this, there is a better cultivation of the land. Due to the installation of a more powerful engine, the T-16M began to weigh 1810 kg.
In 1986, the production of the T-16MG tractor began. The comfort of work has improved. Despite the fact that the engine remained the same, the maximum transport speed was increased to 40 km / h.
On the T-16MG modification, 3 power take-off shafts (1 independent and 2 synchronous) were installed, which made it possible to increase the productivity of this machine.
A dumping mechanism was installed on the front platform of the T-16 MG "beggar". As a result, the model began to be in demand among transport and construction companies.
Technical specifications
All modifications of the T-16 were developed on the basis of the base model. Its overall dimensions are 3820 × 2000 × 2600 mm. The deviations of the rest of the lineup from these indicators are not great. The T-16 weighs 1685 kg. The height from the bridge to the ground is 58 cm.
Comparative technical characteristics of the T-16 tractors are presented below in the form of a table.

Engine
The basic T-16 tractors were equipped with a four-stroke engine with a power of 16 hp, later models were equipped with a D-21A1 engine with 22 horsepower. This motor is enough to power not only the T-16 tractor, but also attachments that can weigh up to 150 kg.
Both motors are air-cooled. On the heads and sides of the cylinders there are fins that provide cooling. It is possible to adjust the air flow rate by means of a rotary dial in the corresponding channel.
Transmission
The T-16 minitractor has a manual gearbox. On the first models there were four positions for driving forward, on subsequent modifications their number was increased to 7.
Chassis and transmission
The gearbox shafts are at right angles to the longitudinal axis. Thanks to this, it was possible to reduce the size of the transmission and the machine as a whole.
The clutch includes two single-disk units, which are designed to transmit torque to the gearbox and adjust the PTO operation. The driving axle is rear.
Cabin and controls
The cabin is not the trump card of the Beggar. It is glazed on all sides. Air conditioning and a fan are not provided in these machines. The seat height is not adjustable and the dashboard is minimalist.
Attachment
Most of the attachments of the T-16 minitractor are mounted in front on a tubular subframe. The manufacturer offers a large set of attachments that will help in agricultural work.
User's manual
The T-16 tractor can still be found in the countryside. Its popularity is due to several factors:
- budget cost;
- Small expenses of fuel and lubricants;
- Wide range of applications;
- maintainability;
- Long service life.
However, many owners note the fact that every year it is more and more difficult to find spare parts for the T-16 tractor, since they have not been produced for a long time. Therefore, it is easier to maintain equipment in working order and carry out periodic maintenance than to look for spare parts when it fails.
Maintenance
The "beggar" is a very simple tractor in terms of daily and periodic maintenance. Before each trip, you should check and, if necessary, add fuel, coolant and oil, check the performance of the brake and steering systems, and check the battery charge.
Recommended oils:
- The engine oil must be changed after 250 operating hours. It is recommended to use M-10G2k in summer, M-10DM in winter.
- Gear oil must be changed after 500 hours of operation. Tap-15v oil is intended for this unit.
Basic malfunctions and ways to eliminate them
The T-16 tractor is distinguished by its simplicity of design and repair work.
If the engine does not start:
- Check the presence of fuel and oil in the relevant organs;
- Make sure the ignition system is working and the spark plugs are working;
- Check the fuel system;
- Clean the air and fuel filters, many owners note that they often become clogged.
The beggar cannot be called too comfortable due to the fact that the cabin is located directly above the transmission, and with a small weight it shakes a lot while driving. However, if there is a strong vibration, then this is a sign of a malfunction:
- Bolted connections loosened;
- Attachment connected incorrectly;
- Out of lubricant.

Owner feedback
Below are a few opinions about the T-16 tractor from thematic forums.
Igor:
“It would be fairest to say about this technique that the quality fully corresponds to the technique. For the budget cost, you understand that the technical characteristics will be appropriate. You can work on it, but you need to make a number of improvements. One of them is the sealing of the cabin, because I had it leaking from all sides. It is convenient to work with the front linkage, because you do not have to constantly turn back to control the movement of the attachment.”
