YUMZ tractor. Review, instruction manual, reviews

Tractor YuMZ

The history of the "Southern Machine-Building Plant" dates back to 1966, when the production of the YuMZ-6 tractor began. For its development, the designers took the base from Belarus MTZ-5. This machine quickly began to be in demand. Even the developers themselves did not expect such a success.

The most striking confirmation of these words will be the numbers. In just two years, more than 100 thousand new copies of YUMZ tractors were produced! This technique has found application in almost all areas of the national economy.

Even after more than half a century, this technique still meets international quality standards.

With the development of technology, the company had to simply modernize it for new realities. In this regard, several modifications were produced, while the quality of the tractors remained invariably high.

Modification overview

In order to better understand the features of the technical characteristics of each model, you need to pay attention to the prefix next to the name:

  • The first tractors were called YUMZ-6L. Outwardly, they were very similar to 50 Belarus;
  • After that, the YuMZ-6AL was released. An improved dashboard was installed on it, it became possible to adjust the position of the steering wheel in height, the engine cover was made in a rectangular shape and improved brakes were installed.
  • The YuMZ-6K tractor is designed for operation exclusively with front attachments. This model does not have a rear hitch, therefore it is used as an excavator for digging deep trenches and pits or a bulldozer for leveling sand and gravel mixtures and loading bulk materials.
  • A new version of the cab with increased visibility and the ability to adjust the operating mode of the hydraulic pump was installed on the YuMZ-6AK;
  • There are two more options for marking with the letters M and L, which designate tractors with an electric starter and a carburetor starting system, respectively.

Over its long history, YUMZ equipment has found application in a wide variety of sectors of the national economy, from farm and livestock holdings to city utilities and construction services.

The cost of the YUMZ tractor

Many future owners are interested in the question of how much the new model of the YuMZ-6 tractor will cost. And there is no answer here, since the last representative of this model was released in 2001.

At the moment, you can buy a tractor only by hand. There is a large number of offers on the Internet.

But no matter how much you look for a model, you need to understand that a high-quality working machine will cost about 3 thousand USD. If you find a price lower, then be sure to fully check this machine for performance.

Technical specifications

All YuMZ tractors are similar in their technical characteristics, so let's look at them in a single complex.

Dimensions and weight

The basic tractor model weighs 3,4 tonnes. All the main units are located close to each other, which allowed the designers to make the model of the YuMZ-6 tractor compact, with overall dimensions of 4060 × 1850 × 2750 mm.

Engine

The motor on the YuMZ-6 was installed in two modifications:

  • The first tractors were equipped with D-65 four-cylinder diesel engines. Their power was 60 horsepower.
  • However, such a high power during operation was extremely rare, in this regard, the YuMZ-6 tractors began to be equipped with more economical D242-71 engines. Their power is 46 horsepower.

Both of these engine brands have similar technical characteristics and excellent traction performance.

Turbocharging is not provided in the engines of YUMZ tractors and the decompressor has only 1 stage. The drive axle is rear.

Transmission

The YuMZ-6 tractor is equipped with a manual gearbox. There are five box positions in total, there is no direct transmission. A reduction gearbox allows you to double the number of gearbox stages for work at low speeds.

The speed of work on YUMZ-6 tractors can vary from 2,3 to 24,5 km / h.

Chassis and transmission

Tractor travel is controlled directly from the operator's cab: acceleration, braking, PTO engagement and rear axle blocking. Many tractor owners note the heavy turn of the steering column; to facilitate this process, a hydraulic booster was installed in the YuMZ-6.

The YuMZ tractors are equipped with a rear-wheel drive, which is capable of moving the device over viscous soils. However, sometimes he cannot perform work where a car with a front drive axle could cope.

Cabin

A distinctive feature of the YuMZ-6 tractors is a comfortable cab. The dashboard provides the owner with comprehensive information about the status of the device and its driving speed.

Many owners of new YuMZ-6 note high-quality dust insulation. During operation, dust and dirt do not get inside the tractor cab.

The air temperature in the cab is controlled by a fan and air conditioning. To reduce vibration, shock absorbers were installed on the operator's seat.

Attachment

The entire model range of YUMZ-6 tractors is capable of performing a wide range of works thanks to compatible attachments.

Separately, it is worth noting the hydraulic system, which is capable of driving even heavy attachments.

User's manual

Each owner of the YuMZ tractor must be familiar with the operating instructions. If the paper media is lost, then on the forums you can find an electronic version of the instruction manual.

Maintenance

To extend the service life of the YuMZ-6 tractor, it is necessary to carry out maintenance in accordance with the requirements of the user manual. The tractor must be cleaned of dirt and dust residues at the end of each drive. This will help prevent corrosion on the elements of the device.

Recommended oils:

  • Change the engine oil every 250 hours of operation. For replacement, the M-10G2k or M-10V2 brands are best suited.
  • The hydraulic oil must be changed after 500 operating hours. Any universal STOU oil can be used for the hydraulic system.
  • Transmission oil must be changed only once at the beginning of seasonal work. It is recommended to use the Soviet Tap-1V or TAD-15i as fresh lubricant.

Basic malfunctions and ways to eliminate them

The operating manual recommends periodically checking the operability of all tractor systems, adjusting the position of the exhaust valves in the engine, and tightening the bolted connections. For every owner, it is extremely important to know how to correct the most common faults.

The following reasons could make it difficult to start the engine:

  • The fuel filters are clogged (they should be washed or, if repair is impossible, replace them);
  • Air ingress into the fuel system (it is necessary to remove air and refill the diesel);
  • Incorrect setting of the fuel pump (you need to install it at the right angle);
  • The engine is not fully warmed up (this is most important in the winter period).

If the motor runs intermittently or does not provide the required power:

  • The nozzle needle sticks or the spray holes on the nozzles are clogged (it is necessary to disassemble and clean the corresponding elements);
  • Reduced fuel supply pressure (it is necessary to adjust the injectors);
  • Uneven supply of the diesel by the pump (in this case, the adjustment should be done in a specialized workshop);
  • The air intakes are clogged (clean them);
  • The plunger fuel pump is jammed (only specialized services will help here).

Owner feedback

These are the opinions you can find about the YuMZ-6 tractors on thematic forums.

Gregory:

“I believe that YuMZ-6 is in no way inferior to newer tractors from European manufacturers. I have been working with him since 1986. I've been using it for over 30 years! It seems to me that he skated his work life of 12 hours a long time ago, while I still have not observed serious breakdowns in it. Minor repairs consisted in the restoration of old units. All this can be easily done at home. Never visited the workshop. A double-furrow plow brings to work on virgin land without problems. The trailer loaded as much as possible with 000 tons of coal, and also pulled easily. He would still have a front axle and he would not have a price "
